Lily, a wisp of a girl with pigtails that defied gravity, clutched a crumpled wad of cash in her sweaty palm. Today was the day! After weeks of pleading and chore-induced desperation, she’d finally saved enough for the most coveted piece of clothing in her entire fourth-grade world: the “Dark Cat Eyes – Funky Print – Oversized T-shirt.”
